By Winning architectural competition | Professional Practice

When an architect takes part in an architectural competition and wins it, then all of a sudden he becomes a famous architect. This because the results of the competition are published in media. The works and drawings are also published and the architect becomes famous. Once an architect becomes well known, the clients approach him on their own, and he gets more works. His practice is established. Therefore, this is a good way to come to the forefront in practice.

However, one has to be careful and cautious while taking part in a competition. Often such competitions are not genuine architectural competitions. No fair play can be expected out of them if the competitions are not organized as per the norms of the Council of Architecture. We shall study in the following chapters the norms and guidelines of the architectural competitions.

But for the time being, I shall say it would be a waste of time to take part in competitions, which are not organized as per the guidelines of the Council of Architecture.

To prepare the competition drawings a lot of time has to be devoted to the work. Often a group of persons from the office staff is engaged for this work for quite some time. This shall not tend to neglect the on going works in the office. Your clients shall not get a feeling that you are inattentive to their works. It is said after all that a bird in hand is better than two in a bush.
